Starvation of the Spirit
Psa 34:8 Oh taste and see that Jehovah is good: Blessed is the man that taketh refuge in him. Oh fear Jehovah, ye his saints; For there is no want to them that fear him.
The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger; But they that seek Jehovah shall not want any good thing.
I have tasted the Lord and know He is good. I may have had to force-feed myself at times in my life. There were days when I had to make myself go to prayer. I had to drag my flesh just as we drag our toddlers out of a toy store. I had to make myself read His Word. But I did. Every day, whether I felt like it or not, I prayed and I read. I prayed and I read.
Let me encourage you, child of God, read and pray. Read and pray. Every day, whether you feel like it or not, read and pray. Feed your spirit! Don’t starve yourself. Sometimes we can be starving to death, but we don’t recognize the pains of hunger.
I remember when my daughter was a young girl, she would get too busy to eat. So for whatever reason, several hours would go by, and she would have eaten nothing. We might have never known, except she would get intolerable to live with! She would cry, yell, throw fits. It was awful.
Then we finally realized one day, she is hungry. Now if you saw us in a restaurant, you would have probably thought we were being very cruel to this little girl. She would be screaming because she didn’t want to eat. We would have to get very serious, and make her take a bite or two. But after a few bites, she would realize how hungry she really was, and gobble it all down.
My point is, you may be starving spiritually, and never really know it, if you don’t take a bite. Are you grouchy, fearful, tired, apathetic? Let me ask you, when is the last time you had some fresh bread from the Father’s table? Stop living on crumbs, when He has a full table prepared. You may have to force feed yourself at first. It may seem fruitless. But intimacy with Christ WILL produce fruit! (Heidi Baker)
Take some time. Get on our face before God. Read and pray. Read and pray. Read and pray. Before long, you will have to make yourself get up from prayer, instead of making yourself kneel down!
